31st October 2009 - Huntly Opening Meeting - 73a

Well we have had our first run this season, and remembered why you should run at a practice first.

We went to the opening night at Huntly on Saturday with the intention of giving the car a run after not being able to make any of the practices.

Our first race and we had grid 4, everything was good leading up to the meeting and from the start the car felt good, got pushed towards the fence on the first corner and went backwards a few spots. It took about 3 laps to get back into the feel of the pilots seat and then settled into a groove and got a couple of positions back.

Unfortunately on about lap 9 after braking hard the car pushed start ahead and I had to fight the car in the turns until the end of the race finishing 7.

Back in the pits it was apparent that we had sheared the keyway pin on the rear brake rotor, thus leaving only front braking and making it hard to turn the car into the turn.

Decided to run the car in the next race, starting towards the rear of the field we got a good start but without good brakes speed in the turns was difficult to control and after a touch from behind was spun backwards onto the infield where the clutch jammed.
It took about 3 laps to free the clutch, after rejoining the race and doing a few laps the brakes became worse and finally no brakes at all.

Finished the race as the last car running.

In all not a good night but the cars engine was running as good as ever and had no problems other than what we have mentioned above.

Decided not to run in the last race and loaded the car in the transporter.

We should be able to fix the brakes this week and get another run next weekend in either Rotorua or Huntly, and hopefully put on better show.
