Opening Night Huntly 31st October

We were lucky to even make this meeting.  You would be really amazed at just how fast the offseason goes, between normal work, home business work, then home jobs, and other personal stuff you begin to wonder how someone ever gets the time to have a hobby.  The last few weeks leading up to the season opener we spent changing the gearbox, bell housing and clutch.  Between that and putting two new tires on the rear, this was all the attention the car received.  In fact to let you in on a bit of a secret the car only got its first wash since April on the Sunday prior to the event.

To start the season off there has to be a big thank you to both Dad and Wayne for all the work done on the cars and transporter.  So with everything loaded up and arriving at Huntly, the place looked great and for an opening night a good pack of cars on display.  My intention for the night was to just give the car a run and try to remember how the thing goes around the corner.

Race 1, Things weren’t great from the outset - I had nowhere near enough revs coming from the engine and could only manage around 6500rpm.  Thinking the worst that the engine was beginning to seize I pulled off the track after a few laps and check the gauges etc.
Back in the pits the engine was running OK with good oil pressure so the fuel float levels were checked and I blew the air cleaner out with the compressed air.

Race 2, While I did lose all power off the start, once things kicked into gear I managed to get a couple of quick laps in, but the car started to get slower and slower until I pulled to the infield.  After a few moments it would rev freely again so I jumped back out onto the track to once again get a couple of good laps in before it started to get slower and slower.  Frustrated I pulled off the track and waited for the gates to open.

Before the last race Dad and Wayne pulled the fuel system all to bits and determined that there was a blockage somewhere in the system.  Finally taking the valve off the tank they found a big blob of something was blocking the tap.  So we headed out for the 3rd race where the car kept going quite well but I didn’t bother pushing too hard as the track had to turned into a minefield of giant ruts which doesn’t work well with the current setup of the car.
