Huntly 07th November

Our second night back out racing and once again we travelled the road to Huntly.  This time however with just one car, while the 63a car was finished during the week we did not have anyone available to drive.  Another good handful of cars were on tap for the nights running – but this was not surprising as while Huntly doesn’t have the best surface, by the end of the night everything else about the track is very inviting.   The biggest downer of the night was that my transponder wasn’t working so I had no idea of my final positions or lap times.

Race 1; Getting the car off the line can be a bit of a mission, but we will work on that.  Once up and running the car went well and I managed to sneak past a couple of others.

Race 2; It did feel like the car was running better and I spent the last few laps sitting behind 414, but the brakes were feeling quite spongy so I had to ease up a little otherwise it could have been a self indulgent trip to the wall.

Race 3; Started really well for a change and stayed with the main pack!  Cars were spinning all over the place, and out of the dust the Tank was slowly circulating - and you’re never quite sure what’s going to happen with that.  Once again with a flat transponder I don’t know where I finished some say second but who knows.  The Tank did a great job in blocking some cars and the crowd responded well, and that’s all part of it.  It was a pretty rough ride through the corners by the end of the night, and to be honest thinking about how little work was done over the off season I was surprised that nothing fell off the car!

On a side note this night showed once again the failing of the current top level body structure for stockcars:  you have a car that has done a fair number of meetings, attended title races, a couple of green sheeting sessions, and yet one person can walk up with no introduction - poke around the car and then say that they don’t like the something and the driver is forced to make a change.
I guess there is failings on both sides of the equation but being polite and having a better attitude could go a long way.
