2nd night back for the new year and all seemed well as we left for the track.
Due to teams racing next week we where going to try a new setup on the car, we had replaced all of the shocks with new Affco aluminum ones and had a new set of rear tyres.
It was hoped this would improve our lap times, so when we went out for our first race and the car didn’t perform how I expected it to, it was a little disappointing. I got spun by Dave Tennant 75a and had to work hard to get past Philip Marx 53a and Darryl Clarkson 78a to finish in third I think.
Back in the pits we made some air pressure adjustments in the tyres only and went out in the next race. The car went better but again it had a bad push thru the turns and very loose on the exit, however we still managed a good finish. The best thing was that with the bad push the lap times where about the same as the week before.
So we now looked at the suspension and loosened the back up to see if this would help. Now over the previous few weeks the fastest lap times from all of our races had been in the last two laps and tonight had been no different. With this in mind I had to really push hard to get on the pace quicker at the beginning of the race.
In the feature I took the lead after the first lap with Aaron Headington 16a right behind and with clear track I really did push as hard as I could. The difference being that the car was handling like it was on rails and flying down the straights into the turns. Aaron was still knocking on the back door, remembering that he had won the previous two races. The chase went on for about five laps until I believe that he over drove the corner and spun. With this I had about a full straight lead and was actually able to back off for the last half of the race to the finish line.
Only my second win in Superstocks, but this time the car was really fast.
Best item of the night was the number of Auckland registered
cars turning up : 9
And with the addition of 33R again we had a good field.
There's no racing next week as we are off to the Teams racing at Palmerston.
