Well its great to finally be back in the car, after the family problems prior
to Christmas.
Its even better to see the number of Auckland Cars that turned up for the meeting,
with knowledge that there are still a few more to turn up.
16A : 51A : 52A : 53A : 73A : 75A : 78A : 94A : 351A
Along with 38R : 81B : 171R : 24H : 898S this made a reasonable field of Superstocks for the crowd.
Unfortunately the track didn’t really deliver the goods for us but the night was for modifieds and stockcars.
However on a good note: the lap timing system was in use and for the first time we could gauge how the car preformed during the night, with some surprising results.
In the first race the pack headed off out to the wall for a bit of light contact
and to be honest it was hard enough just to control the car on the slippery
surface, after the first couple of laps I found myself in third trying to pass
16a Aaron going onto the back straight, however I got way to sideways and Aaron
completed a high speed spin down the back straight. I rejoined straight away
but a couple of places down, I slowly caught 53 Philip (brother) and 78 Darryl
whom both where running well. Best of all both drifted off the pole line to
allow a pass up the inside. (Honest I didn’t touch either of them).
After this the race finished and I had come third I think. Best of all was that
the last lap was my fastest and the car felt really good. Unfortunately we had
to change the right rear for a tyre that was meant to have been changed that
morning.
So I spent the next two races bitching about the lack of grip from the bald tyre.
I did get a chance to spin 16A Aaron in the second race and I did, however Aaron got me back again in the feature.
Just a couple of comments to finish off,
Well done to my brother whom I felt was going really well with the new power
plant.
Darryl Clarkson I thought had a good debut in a good looking car and finishing
2nd in the feature.( remember that the wall gets harder the faster you go.)
Aaron Headington drove to the conditions well to get two wins and must be happy
with the purchase.
Wayne / Paul keep persevering as the cars go well and the problems will get
sorted.
We are racing again this Saturday so it would be good to see everyone again .
Thank you.
