Auckland Stockcar Teams Champs 18-19 March 2005

The preparation for this major meeting started a week earlier with the 73a car making the trip down to Huntly for the night. The first 2 races the chev engine seemed to be down on power, but by the 3rd race a loose distributor was tightened and with the timing reset the engine performed much better and the car was moving with quite a bit of pace. With the small bugs worked out of the car things were looking ready for the hard up and coming Teams Weekend.

The members in the Auckland Allstars Team for the Auckland Champs were:

Bryce Marx, Paul Vasey, Warick Ansty, Grant Mytton, and Ricky Mitchell.

The Team Manager was Gary Ellis.

Unfortunately this update isn't going to be very detailed as I was so busy watching the races I forgot to record them using the digital camera. Also after attempting to drive my car through the Waikaraka Park carpark and having the passenger side front inner guard torn out because of a huge hole in the middle of the driveway I wasn't really in a happy mood.

However the racing action was great and all the drivers showed heaps of commitent for their Teams. The format was a bit strange and confusing to work out espcially when the Auckland Allstars lost in the final to a team that they had already beaten. But not to take anything away from Huntly, they drove awesome and the crews did a fanstic job keeping the cars going. If fact all the crews for all the cars did excellant jobs keeping the machinery running.

There have been many reviews about the various teams races some of which can be found and read from the following sites:

Hopefully there will be a Hopefully there is a review in the next issue of the Dirt Track magazine. Of course their views are probably not the same as I have but at least you might get an idea for how great the racing was.

There was a swelling in the ranks of the crew for the 73a car due to the nature of Teams racing and we greatly thank the efforts of all those that came down to help out on the car to make sure it was ready for each event.

The 73a is still sitting in the Transporter from the weekend with a number of battle scars as the attention has changed focus to getting the old 73a std stock back in running shape. New side rails, hoop bars, drum catcher and wheel guards have been made and welded on with the intention of getting the car tidied up with a few meetings to go. A potential buyer for the car has been found and hopefully the car might be ready for him to try out before the end of the season.

Another huge thank you goes out to Robert Long from Auckland. He gave both Bryce and myself some art work of the cars. Both images are brilliant and show very fine work and exceptional detail, so thank you very much Robert.

Not really much of a review....I'll try to make for it next time.
